I think we’re back on track, Revolutionaries!

Phew - all that life-stuff that showed up the last month or so (swollen vocal chords & my Mother passing away) that kept me from my writing here, seems to be in the rear view mirror. Well, at least the logistics of those things anyways - the grief for Mom is still present, but it comes & goes. So I’m channeling that into my vocal recording sessions & it’s helping a LOT. Being able to sing through the grief & move that energy through my instrument, my body, is really proving to be quite the release mechanism for me, & it’s generating some pretty epic performances, if I do say so myself (as does Myles, our producer).

The vocal chord swelling has mellowed & my pipes are back in good working order due to the rainy season arriving here in San Miguel. Hallelujah for humidity & for the rains washing away the dust & pollen that were likely the main cause of the problems I was experiencing. Breathing in all the desert dust, the smoke from grass fires, the dry air, and the pollen from the gorgeous (but crazy-making for allergy sufferers) Jacaranda tress that are literally everywhere in San Miguel, made for a sinus-drip disaster … which then left my chords swollen & irritated 24/7 … Which led to the need for vocal rest & medication, in order to mitigate the damage & prevent any more swelling from occurring. Anyways … it seems that’s been handled & my body is back into action & we’ve been hitting the studio for vocal sessions. Yay! Vocals aren’t finished yet, but we definitely have a solid start on things.

So now that we’re up to date on all the current goings on, let’s dig back into the past with Part 4 of this series I decided to call Alchemy. The story of how, after a hiatus of 10 years, I’ve been able to step back into the recording studio & make an album that I know is truly a record of this moment in time, for me, for the people I’m collaborating with, & ideally, for the world. I know - that sounds pretty grand - but a girl can dream, right? :-) This is where I wax philosophical about how ART is so important in times like these.

For a bit more of my thoughts on why Art is inherently political, & MUST be, check out this piece from early 2025 here.

I’ve been titling the posts in this series “Alchemy” for a number of reasons, but mainly because I know that without the inner work I’ve done on myself over the last 10 years since I released “Desire” (which you can listen to here), I wouldn’t be here right now.

The pieces behind the paywall on this page are all relating to my CURRENT WORK. My work on the new music I’m creating & what’s going into it.
